Like our casework, our contact services focus on building and maintaining positive
relationships between the child and their imprisoned
parent. Providing individual support for each child can
include:
Children's Supported Transport Service
This free service involves safely transporting children to visit their imprisoned parent(s) or carer(s) or to attend SHINE FOR KIDS Child Activity and Family Days. It aims to reduce the anxiety and fear in prison visits and to help maintain positive relationships with the imprisoned adult(s). Read more »
Video Visits
In conjunction with the Department of Corrective Services, Video Visits is a video conferencing program that keeps families in touch over long distances. As many as four adults, plus any number of children, can participate in the one video visit. Read more »
Child and Parent Activity Days
These days assist with re-establishment and/or maintenance of a positive relationship between the imprisoned parent(s) or carer(s) and their children. Read more »
Prisons Invisits Program
The Prison Invisits Program provides a variety or arts, craft and diversionary activities for children when visiting their parent in prison. Children encounter a more enjoyable
visit with their parent. Childcare workers employed by SHINE for Kids and trained volunteers
offer enjoyable, relaxing activities to occupy children between times
spent talking to their parent. Read more »
